REGISTERING YOUR DOG

WITH THE UKC

APLA requires that your dog be registered with the United Kennel Club (UKC) in order for your dog to record passes and receive titles. If your dog is not registered with the UKC, you will need to to go through the process of registering your dog with the UKC.

If you are reading this page, your dog is most likely an AKC registered dog, or from an AKC registered litter and you have not submitted the papers to get your dog registered with the AKC.

Your dog may also be from a UKC registered litter but you have not submitted the papers to get your dog registered with the UKC.

The instructions on this page cover these scenarios. Please read the definition of terms to get a basic understanding of the dog registration process. This understanding will help you with answering the questions about your dog’s registration status and how to obtain your dog’s UKC registration.

If you are not familiar with the registration process,  you should read the definition of terms before proceeding to the questions below.  These definitions also provide explanations and examples of the UKC and AKC Kennel Registration Process. Defined terms below appear in all capital letters.

DOG REGISTRATION STATUS QUESTIONS

Please answer the following questions in order.

Is your dog a UKC REGISTERED DOG?

Does your dog have a UKC REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE? If so, your dog is a UKC REGISTERED DOG.

If you have this document, you do not need to answer any more questions below.

Go to Huntsecretary.com and create an account on that website for you and your dog.

Did your breeder register your puppy's litter with both the UKC and the AKC and your dog does not have its UKC REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE because the UKC PERMANENT REGISTRATION APPLICATION  was not submitted to the UKC?

If the answer to this question is “YES”, you must follow the instructions in the next question.

Sometimes a breeder will register its litter with both the UKC and the AKC.

Check with your breeder to make sure what kennel club litter registration your dog is associated with.

If your dog is registered with both the UKC and AKC, you must follow the procedures for a UKC REGISTERED LITTER using the UKC PERMANENT REGISTRATION APPLICATION.

Is your dog from a UKC REGISTERED LITTER and you have not submitted the UKC PERMANENT REGISTRATION APPLICATION to the UKC?

If your dog is from a UKC REGISTERED LITTER and you have not sent in the UKC PERMANENT REGISTRATION APPLICATION to the UKC, you will need this application in its original form.

If you do not have it, contact your breeder to obtain the original or have the breeder obtain a replacement application from the UKC for you.

Is your dog an AKC REGISTERED DOG WITH AN AKC REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE?

If your dog is registered as an AKC REGISTERED DOG with an AKC Registration Certificate you will need to use the UKC SINGLE REGISTRATION APPLICATION.

If your dog is also registered from a UKC litter, do not use the UKC SINGLE REGISTRATION APPLICATION.  You must follow the UKC procedures identified in the prior questions.

Is your dog from an AKC REGISTERED LITTER and you have not submitted the AKC DOG/OWNER REGISTRATION APPLICATION to the AKC?

If yes, do you still have the AKC DOG/OWNER REGISTRATION APPLICATION? If not, contact your breeder for this information.

You can use AKC codes and information from the application to submit this information on AKC website.
